March 2010 Jersey of the Month - Transit by Ralph Juarez

Transit

Ralph Juarez

So how do you get around? History has confirmed that man is constantly looking for a better way to get from point A to point B. An archeological excavation in what was Mesopotamia unearthed a wheel with spokes believed to be 5,550 years old. It could have been a cart or a chariot. Is the chariot the great-grandmother of the bicycle?

Monsieur Sivrac created the first bicycle in the 1790’s. There were no pedals or handlebars, but it gave the rider the freedom to go places - even if it was only in a straight line.

The bicycle has certainly come a long way. Enjoy this mode of Transit.
